TMC Family Workstation

A convenient spot for caregivers to work while children play

TMC developed the Family Workstation after a Virginia library’s staff noticed that adults visiting with young children were struggling to use computer workstations. Caregivers were often observed typing with one hand and using the other hand to balance a child on a knee. The experts at TMC teamed up with Quinn Evans Architects to craft a unique solution, combining a functional workspace with an enclosed play area.

The adult side features a generous work surface that can accommodate a public access terminal or the user’s own laptop. The child side features a padded floor mat, a mirror mounted on the back panel, and an interactive learning panel mounted on the right side. Adults can work, research, or read without constantly stopping to wrangle in their little ones, while kids can move around and play without leaving their caregivers’ sight. Suitable for children up to two years old.

• 3/4″ thick maple plywood frame with durable maple veneers, a protective clear lacquer finish, and 1/8″ maple edge-banding
• 1-1/8″ thick premium furniture board work surface with a maple laminate surface and 1/8″ maple edge-banding
• A wire access hole, corner wire manager, and 3″ dia. white plastic grommet in the work surface provide convenient cord control
• Work surface measures 35″W x 22-3/4″D; mounted 29″H
• Circular cutouts in the middle divider and front panel add a decorative look while allowing adults see into the child side
• 3″ thick foam-padded floor mat with healthcare-grade, PVC-free polyurethane upholstery that can be wiped down with bleach
• 14″H x 28″W shatterproof acrylic mirror framed in 3/4″ thick maple plywood with maple veneers
• 16″H x 16″W, 1″ thick maple plywood Learning Activity Panel available in a variety of styles
• Workstation measures 47-5/8″H x 72″W x 45-3/8″D overall
